Due to its unfamiliar texture, many people are understandably worried about maintaining leather, which is often confounded by images of badly aged and threadbare leather furniture. Unlike fabric, leather is not as easily patched when torn and, over time, may lose its sheen and eventually its integrity to the rigors of heat, moisture, and debris.
Leather furniture should, thus, be kept away from radiators and sources of heat. Because of its sensitivity to water damage, leather should also be kept clear of moisture.
However, leather is remarkably easy to clean. Unlike fabric, liquid spills do not readily soak into leather, allowing spills to be cleaned off with a simple wipe. The spills, however, should be wiped off immediately, preferably with a dry or mildly damp (but not wet) cloth rag or paper towel to prevent staining. Wiping should be done lightly, with care being taken to avoid damaging the surface through rubbing.

Dusting and vacuuming should be done frequently to prevent the accumulation of dirt and debris on the pores of the leather. Vacuuming is especially ideal for removing dust from crevasses such as those in between seat cushions. Cleaning products should be avoided unless they are specifically made for cleaning leather. Leather cleaning products should be applied once a month.
