For many owners of leather furniture, these home fixtures are a source of pride and joy. Every time a guest comes in, leather furniture owners often secretly hope that their furniture gets noticed. It’s funny because it’s true.

This is why Guardian Protection Products Inc. has a number of products (protectors and cleaners) for leather furniture. However, the company also recommends that furniture owners know how to care for their leather furniture in case they run out of protectors or cleaners.

On that note, Guardian Protection Products Inc. shares a few more tips on keeping one’s leather furniture in tiptop shape.

· Owners should try cleaning hidden areas of the furniture. This way, they can see if the cleaning method yields acceptable results.

· For small spills, oftentimes a moist cloth will do the trick. Sponges are a good alternative. Point a fan at the cleaned area to dry it.

· Guardian Protection Products Inc. cautions owners against using oils, varnish, furniture polish, and ammonia-based liquid since these substances may corrode and damage leather.

· For more stains caused by butter, grease, or oil, all one needs to do is wipe them off with a dry cloth. The spot will disappear after a while. If it doesn’t, owners are suggested to contact a professional.

Mastering The Art Of Leather Care

Sleek, shiny, and incredibly comfortable to sit on, leather furniture can be an excellent addition to many modern or contemporary interiors. Leather is a rather tricky material to maintain. With proper care, however, leather can weather through the years and age gracefully, giving the room a timeless quality.

Due to its unfamiliar texture, many people are understandably worried about maintaining leather, which is often confounded by images of badly aged and threadbare leather furniture. Unlike fabric, leather is not as easily patched when torn and, over time, may lose its sheen and eventually its integrity to the rigors of heat, moisture, and debris.

Leather furniture should, thus, be kept away from radiators and sources of heat. Because of its sensitivity to water damage, leather should also be kept clear of moisture.

However, leather is remarkably easy to clean. Unlike fabric, liquid spills do not readily soak into leather, allowing spills to be cleaned off with a simple wipe. The spills, however, should be wiped off immediately, preferably with a dry or mildly damp (but not wet) cloth rag or paper towel to prevent staining. Wiping should be done lightly, with care being taken to avoid damaging the surface through rubbing.

Dusting and vacuuming should be done frequently to prevent the accumulation of dirt and debris on the pores of the leather. Vacuuming is especially ideal for removing dust from crevasses such as those in between seat cushions. Cleaning products should be avoided unless they are specifically made for cleaning leather. Leather cleaning products should be applied once a month.
